Having a nagging headache behind your eyes can make your entire day miserable, and it can sometimes seem like they appear out of nowhere and for no reason and disappear just as quickly. Headaches behind your eyes can sometimes last for hours, but they can even last for days at a time, making it impossible to do simple tasks such as standing up or driving a vehicle. Thankfully, there are known causes for headaches behind eyes and once you know the causes, you can use preventive action to avoid getting headaches in the future.

STRESS

One of the most common causes of headaches behind the eyes in many people is the daily stress that can build up in our lives. Stress is simply any idea or situation that you worry or think about on a daily basis. A little bit of stress in your life is a good thing because it forces you to be alert and active, but too much stress can have some very negative consequences on your body.

It can cause a variety of mental and physical disorders, and it is the leading cause of headaches among adults around the world. A good way to reduce the amount of stress in your life is to simply remove what is causing the stress in the first place.

PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

Some prescription drugs can cause headaches behind the eyes as a side effect. While this is rare, it is still a possibility and it should be noted before you take the drugs. In many cases, these headaches are “worth it” because the benefit from the drug that is being taken far outweighs the negative effects of the headache.

ILLNESS AND DISEASE

There are a variety of illnesses and diseases that can cause headaches behind the eyes for people. A common cold is one of the most common illnesses that can cause headaches. When you contract a cold, your entire immune system is weakened, meaning the pain in your head and behind your eyes can flair up and result in an excruciating headache that will stay with you for days on end. Having influenza can also head to experiencing headaches for much of the same reason.

SLEEP DEPRIVATION

Getting too little sleep can cause headaches behind eyes because your brain and body is physically and mentally tired. When this happens, pain will set in to remind your body to rest and recuperate as soon as possible.

There are many causes for headaches behind the eyes, and it’s important to know what can cause painful headaches so you can take proactive steps to avoid the pain associated with headaches. The primary causes of headaches behind the eyes are sleep deprivation, illness and other diseases, overuse or misuse of prescription drugs, and stress from the everyday factors of life.

Once you know the factors and causes of headaches, it’s easier to avoid these causes which allows you to live a healthier and happier life without putting up with headaches behind eyes.
